Bherd Studios is Moving "Underground"

As of October 31st, Bherd Studios will be leaving our current space located at 315 NW 85th St in Greenwood. We loved our first space and we are a little sad at moving because we shared many exciting moments and met many new friends & artists and artist friends :-)

We're excited to announce that we will soon be a part of the Greenwood Collective located on Greenwood Ave N, mid-block North of 85th. So the location is much better and we will be surrounded by amazing designers, architects and other artists. We will still have a gallery and will have bigger and better art exhibits in 2009. This new space is a great venue for art and art lovers alike. Our mission will stay the same: "to feature emerging and established urban contemporary artists from the Pacific NW".

Yes, it's big enough to breakdance! This is a photo from the Tiny Toones fundraiser earlier this year at the Greenwood Collective.

"The Underground" is a new part of the Greenwood Collective which is located underground in 5700 square feet of space. We will be among 5-7 other artists located there and we are hoping to re-open for the 1st Monthly Art Walk kick-off for Greenwood-Phinney on December 12th. We'll keep you all posted!

2008 CoCA Annual: Hybrid | Call for Artists

From December 8 – January 30, CoCA will present the 2008 CoCA Annual, a juried exhibition, asking artist to respond to “hybrid”:

The elements of the world we live in are increasingly becoming synthesized, mixed and reorganized. New ideas are being combined with existing ones. From cars to food, politics and religion, biochemistry, new technologies and art, we are all experiencing the “hybrid”.


CoCA has presented the Annual since 1989, each time bringing in an independent juror to select the work from among the entries received. This year’s juror is Riko Nakasone.


Riko Nakasone has been the director and curator of the Bau-Xi Gallery (http://www.bau-xi.com) in Vancouver, British Columbia for over 8 years. The Bau-Xi Gallery represents a broad range of emerging and senior artists creating both representational and abstract work in diverse media.

There will be a reception for the artists, the work, and the juror on Thursday December 11, from 6-9pm, at CoCA’s Ballard Gallery inside the Shilshole Bay Beach Club at 6413 Seaview Ave NW Seattle, WA 98107. Free entry and parking provided.

A $500 first prize and a $250 second prize will be awarded by the juror.

Submissions are by email with the following requirements:
Minimum three, maximum five digital images of the work, jpg file format, maximum dimension of 800 pixels in either direction.
A description of the images (artwork title, dimensions, medium and year of creation)
Artist’s statement (Send as an attachment not in the body of your email).
Resume/CV (Send as an attachment not in the body of your email)
Contact info (address, phone, email)
Artist web site link (if available)
$25 entry fee for first item, $10 each additional piece
Entry deadline is October 23, and winners will be notified by November 20. Selected work must be shipped to the gallery by December 1. Artists are responsible for packing, shipping & transit insurance costs to & from CoCA.

W. Scott Trimble, Mary Enslow (of Twilight Artist Collective), and Adrian van Dooren invite you the Stables for a one night only sound experiment.

Come and participate and or watch. This little trio met in art school at the UW CMA. There they spent their days and nights eating hot dogs and ramen, talking, rubbing each-others backs,stroking each-others egos, drinking whiskey, doing hand stands, braiding each-others hair, banging on things, and making sweet ass art. Come see them re-united in an experiment that involves, black lights, white suits, 3 jukeboxes, several instruments, dozens of speakers,
elysian brew, tape, butcher paper and alien inspiration.

Seattle Urban Art Mural on 23rd & Dearborn

So this is the mural that I did for Pb Elemental on 23rd & Dearborn. It is right next to Parnells Mini Mart. Last week I put the final clear coat on and today I stenciled in my signature. Also in the works is a documentary about the project. I was fortunate to find Aaron Last at a time when he wasn't busy and was able to help out in creating this documentary.


Here is front side of the foundation that faces the street.

This mural was a real eye opener for me. This is the biggest project that I have worked on and it taught me a handful of things. The biggest thing that it taught me, or should I say it showed me, was that art creates dialogue and that dialogue creates communication. And that is what I was hoping to catch with the theme of this painting.
