Matamuros Brewing Up Some Awesome Urban Art in Greenwood

I was excited to find out that Matamuros "a small collective of mural minded individuals concerned with the retaking and remaking of public space" hit Greenwood with a show at the Naked City Brewery for the February monthly artwalk. Matamuros is made up of Seattle urban mural artists, Jill Rothenberger, Zachary Bohnekamp and Kevin “Sensei 23 projux” Sullivan. I didn't have the chance to go see their work at the artwalk due to us having our own show at the time. But later that weekend had the chance to go have a brew and check out their work. If you haven't had the chance to see their work, I would definitely recommend coming out to Greenwood for a look.

I did a little googling and was further happy to see that there is a mural in progress in the yet to open Pillager's Pub!! This photo is a work in progress and was found on their flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/people/matamuros13/

I hope this is a sign to come of Greenwood evolving into an urban art mecca. Okay that may be a little overzealous, but I can dream!

First Thursday Art Walk in Pioneer Square, February 5th: 6-10pm.
619 Western Building

Being Captured—A Celebration of Fashion by Leo Lam at Blank Space Gallery

Leo embodies the philosophy that commercial and art values are mutually inclusive. His work is poetic and minimalistic in many ways, drawing inspiration from life, romance and current events. He aims to focus on context, rather than superficial beauty, and to inspire his viewer to go beyond the surface and indulge themselves in a world of fantasy. Join us for the opening reception—Thursday February 5th, 2009 from 6pm to 10pm. Being Captured closes on February 26th, 2009.

Leo Lam is an award-winning fashion photographer in Seattle. He has been published worldwide in the United States, Canada, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, China, and the United Kingdom.
