Justin Kane Elder, Seattle Urban Artist at Gainsbourg: Jan 14 - Feb 4

"Bob" by Justin Kane Elder

Artist Opening: Fri, Jan 14 from 6-10pm
Showing through: Fri, Feb 4

Bherd Studios features the pop portraiture of Seattle artist, Justin Kane Elder at Gainsbourg in Greenwood. Elder simplifies images by deconstructing them into basic geometric shapes. His goal is to construct a complex design out of simple forms. Each piece focuses on individual colors and how those colors relate to the space they inhabit. Colors are piled together to create a network of corresponding objects. This talented artist is a graduate of Cornish and is a real up and comer on the urban art scene – we expect to see great new work coming out from Elder this year.

The artist opening is in conjuction with our neighborhood artwalk: Art Up Phinneywood which happens every 2nd Friday from 6-9pm all year long.

Mural at site of Greenwood arson to be unveiled this Thurs, Dec 31

Mural celebrates artistry and creativity of neighborhood

SEATTLE – December 29, 2009 – Taproot Theatre Company and Seattle Mural Art will unveil the mural created for the site of the October 23 arson in Greenwood on Thursday, December 31, at 11 a.m. Taproot Theatre Company commissioned Seattle Mural Art an affliate of Bherd Studios to create a mural to cover the safety fence where the Eleanor Roosevelt Building stood until the arson. Concerned about leaving a hole in the core of the Greenwood business district, Taproot Theatre, which owns the property, saw the mural as a way to add beauty to the neighborhood and facilitate more art. The mural celebrates Greenwood’s character and artistry, and demonstrates its resilience in the wake of the fires.

Free Art Friday is Back Tonight in Greenwood!

"Left Turn" is going out to the peeps in the greenhood tonight. If you happen to be around we just dropped the FAF piece. Here are a few photo hints to help you find it...

There is a huge island in Alaska that this bar is named after...

Not far from that is the drop point...

The piece has found it's temporary hiding place until someone notices that there is a FAF on the loose!

Trick or Treat Greenwood!

Soapbox + Greenwood Collective Art Walk Recap

It all started out last Tuesday with a sneak preview opening and artist presentation for our Soapbox exhibit. Michelle Anderst is giving an overview of her work on display. We had some great feedback from attendee's of the sneak preview show and plan to do more of these for 2010.

Ryan Molenkamp giving his presentation next to his artwork. This large & beautiful 3 panel piece is part of his San Juan series and is deserving of a permanent spot in a prominent public space. Anyone out there looking for a gorgeous Pacific NW original painting for their lobby?
